On March 12, the opening of Global Money Week, Dutch Week van het Geld, and European Money Week coincided. In the Netherlands this was celebrated at the Royal Theatre in the Hague. Students from a local school were the target audience, with special guests including the Dutch Queen, Maxima, and representatives from banking, insurance, the Ministries of Finance and Education, and Child Youth Finance International. This event was organised with the Moneywise Platform by a team of 16 (some part time) staff who also look after the digital platform, pension events and entrepreneur education.
The opening ceremony consisted of a discussion of pocket money with the MC, a performance highlighting financial concepts including sensitivity to the financial situation of friends, mobile phone costs and respectful financial negotiation with parents, and the Minister of Education and Queen Maxima spoke of their family finance issues. Then the official opening was enacted. You can watch some of the Opening Ceremony here.
After this, the children were bussed back to school, along with many of the financial executives who delivered lessons in the classroom. The one I participated in was a cash quiz, very professionally created, that challenged students in the budgeting and wealth creation involved in vlogging. A famous vlogger was recorded in stimulation video. The students worked in groups and played in competition with other groups. They were very engaged in the lesson.
