A tour of the Mint was not scheduled by FCAC, but it was open on Easter Monday so I could not resist a look through. They actually make some of our Australian coins! The Mint in Ottawa is a specialty Mint, not making circulation coins, but artistic collector coins and investment coins of very pure quality sold by weight with a simple maple leaf stamp on them. I learned a lot about the process of making coins, and the specialty processes used at this Mint. They have coins with holograms, coloured coins, gold plated coins, coins with Swarovski crystals or Murano glass embedded, and glow in the dark coins!
