This is an amazing building, and the people I met here were also amazing! My visit had to be in two parts. Maria talked to me about the Bank of Spain and its education program in a central bank role. This includes tours for the public, workshops for visiting students, teacher conferences in locations around the country, a high level UN competition that Spain did exceptionally well in (in terms of participation particularly) and games for students. A new game is currently being designed for primary students. Maria took me on a building tour before taking me for churros and chocolate. Again, amazing!
Then she handed me over to Ines, Patricia and Ana, who spoke to me about their role in public education of all ages in financial literacy, and the benefits of this for financial stability. They directed me to the resources on their platform called Finanzas Para Todos (or finance for all), some of which requires a teacher login. The platform and its collaborators promote Financial Education Day. They organise small bites of education on the radio - read more about that here - and online courses. They also gave me copies (in English) of some key teaching documents, research that proves the program's effectiveness, and the Code of Good Practice.
Thanks to Ines, here you can find the 2015 PISA results for all 5 of the countries I am travelling to from under the heading Country Notes.
My thanks to these lovely ladies for their time and generosity. There are a lot of photos, but it is a very beautiful place!
