Almere

Updated: Mar 20, 2018

The local government in Almere worked with financial support groups to organise a market for students on Wednesday in the Week van get Geld, when schools traditionally let students out early in the Netherlands. Children were issued with a free purchase card, and they had to decide how to spend their token money on items such as popcorn, access to games and a jumping castle, face painting, temporary tattoos, and second hand clothing. Some children also sold used toys in a children's market for real income.

Financial support services had stalls to share information with parents and the community. There was an official opening ceremony with the mayor and Mister Cash (pictured) who was employed by the council for the week to appear in every local classroom and promote the Week van het Geld. More about the Week van het Geld in Almere can be found here.
